Major’s Summer Sounds Music Festival 2007, organised by SMILE, was a great
success, despite the appalling weather during the free entertainment on the
precinct on Saturday. Some intrepid music-lovers braved the wind and torrential
rain and were rewarded by some excellent entertainment. The bands, Samba Galez,
New Druids, Mabon and Sleep Good Feel Good, played through the deluge gallantly
and The Splott Bros, street entertainers, with assistance from the crowd, did
their very best to see-off the clouds. Happily, the electrical system survived
the day.
The
organisers were relieved that the weather on Sunday was dry and were rewarded by
an excellent crowd. By the afternoon, the precinct was full and everyone enjoyed
the great atmosphere and music from Carys, The Victoriana Jazz Band, The Blims,
The Amigos and The Lounge Lizards.
A SMILE
spokesperson said: “ The Summer Sounds Festival lasts a
week but takes planning and organisation all year to come to fruition . The one
thing we can not arrange is the weather! The evening concerts in the school and
the church were well attended in general and we were pleased that Peace and
Hope’s event on the Sunday evening was a great success. SMILE is immensely
grateful to everyone who sponsored the event and helped us throughout the
festival – it is hard work but fun and we have had excellent feed-back”
SMILE
are already planning next year’s event and fingers are crossed for a sunny
week!
